The City of Mississauga is chock full of amenities, offering recreational activities, sports, arts and entertainment, shopping, and an excellent transit service.
The Mississauga Living Arts Centre is a state-of-the-art facility with two main performing arts venues which host a myriad of arts cultural and entertainment programs. The Mississauga Choral Society, Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, and Mississauga Children’s Festivals are just a few of the local organizations that perform here. Events also include performances from well-known national and international stars. The Centre includes seven arts studios, that provide working space for local artists, as well as art classes for people of all ages. Numerous meeting rooms are used for business and social functions. Visitors to the Living Arts Centre can enjoy a meal before or after a show in the Live Cuisine Restaurant which features a dining area surrounded by full-length windows.
Playdium is an electronic, interactive them park, anchored by the 55,000 square foot Sega Space. The complex also includes an Indy-style go-kart track, a mini-golf course, sand volleyball courts, an outdoor rock climbing wall, a baseball centre for batting and pitching, a restaurant, and a retail centre.
Mississauga has two museums, Bradley Museum and Benares Historic House, as well as fifteen public libraries.
For sports fans, the Hershey Centre is a state-of-the-art arena that hosts an impressive lineup of sports and entertainment events. The Mississauga Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League play their home games at this arena. The City of Mississauga operates far too many recreational facilities to mention by name, however these are the highlights: For skating and hockey programs, there is the Meadowvale 4 Rinks and Erin Mills facilities, plus Iceland Mississauga, the home of Mississauga’s first skateboard park. For golfers, Britannia Hills and Lakeview are both public golf courses.
Each unique “village” offers its own shopping district, which maintain the small-town flavours of each area. Some of these include Port Credit, Mississauga’s “Village on the Lake”, Clarkson, Streetsville, to name a few. The Square One Shopping Centre is a huge regional mall featuring more than 330 stores. Other Mississauga malls include Erin Mills Town Centre, Sheridan Mall, and Dixie Outlet Mall.
Mississauga is well connected to all points in the Greater Toronto Area by a vast network of highways, including 401, 403, 407, 427, and Queen Elizabeth Way. Motorists can drive to downtown Toronto in about 30 minutes. Commuters also have the option of GO train service which serves Mississauga with stations at Port Credit, Clarkson, Dixie, Cooksville, Erindale, Streetsville, Meadowvale, and Malton.
With its multitude of parks, schools, shopping, arts and recreational facilities, Mississauga is the perfect place for growing families.
